Esports Managing Director Departs from Entain Organization

In a recent development, Justin Dellario, the Managing Director of Entain esports, has announced his departure from the company after three-and-a-half years. His successor, Oliver Lewis, has taken over the role.

Dellario joined Entain in August 2021, and in October of the same year, he became the CEO of Unikrn, Entain's flagship esports betting platform, which the company had acquired for £50m in 2021.

In a heartfelt post on LinkedIn, Dellario shared his experiences, challenges, and lessons learned during his time at Entain. He expressed gratitude towards the employees, mentors, friends, and Entain for the journey.

The esports betting market, projected to reach a market size of $3bn by 2028, has seen significant growth but has often faced challenges with profitability. Rivalry, another company, has also experienced a slowdown in its momentum in the esports betting market.

Unikrn, initially planned for a B2C launch, has decided to scale back its intended consumer operations and will instead focus on providing B2B solutions for the esports vertical. This shift comes as the company faces challenges in the market, including an ongoing illicit "skin gambling" esports betting market that has caused headaches for publishers and regulators.

Entain, a world-beating company, has made an ambitious push into the esports betting vertical. However, the company has had to rethink its strategy under new leadership and following the exit of Jette Nygaard-Andersen, who has been accused of excessive spending.

Dellario, now looking forward to pursuing new opportunities, thanked Entain for the journey and wished the company success in its future endeavours. The B2C launch of Unikrn has been postponed, and it will continue to strive towards its mission of revolutionising the esports betting industry.
